By Triathletes. For Triathletes.
The Fresh Air Kelowna Cherry Blossom Triathlon was conceived in 2013 by Graham Hood, Malindi Elmore and James Young – no strangers to the race circuit. Graham and Malindi both have an Olympic pedigree, racing track for Canada at the Olympic Games and Malindi gained her Pro Triathlon Card in 2015. James has represented Canada as an Age Grouper at both ITU Worlds and Ironman World Championship in Kona. All three are keen triathletes, excited about filling a gap in the local triathlon race calendar and they create a great mix of race experience, event management and marketing, all vital for an exceptional event. After 2017, James has left the team for a 3 year “drive about” around the world, which still continues today – we wish him all the best and know his legacy will continue on with the CBT.
After a two year forced break due to COVID, another local Triathlete, Cory Krist has been added to the team. Filling a Race Director role, Cory is excited to be a part of the return of the Cherry! Cory is the Head Coach of the Kelowna Triathlon Club and the Okanagan Masters Swim Club. He knows the community and race very well.
The time of year means a pool swim is essential, and thankfully Kelowna boasts one of the countries premier swim locations – the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre. This first class facility has a 50m pool, perfect for creating a longer pool swim for the event. The H2O is surrounded by a great, spectator friendly bike loop circuit, a nice little hill climb and various trails to make the 5km run both fun and interesting.
The Fresh Air Kelowna Cherry Blossom Triathlon is run by triathletes, for triathletes. Thank you very much for registering, we hope you have a great race.
